Honey I'm Home
Concept
Monofloral honey is considered a premium product that is carefully made to get the purest taste. To reflect this, a love story is created. A male bee, Daniel the Drone, tells the story. Daniel would fly to get the best honey from flowers that the queen bee loves and returns home presenting the honey to her, winning her heart. Each day, Daniel would get different monofloral honey, which becomes the colorful product line. This story sends a unique message: this honey is pure and filled with love.
Fritto Misto
Concept
Fritto Misto is an Italian restaurant located in Santa Monica. They want to expand their business by selling pasta sauce and noodle directly to customers. The new package design reflects the fact that these products are made fresh in a local kitchen, not from a factory. All illustrations are hand drawn in wood print style, and printed on watercolor textured paper. Pasta noodle is wrapped in specially designed paper and hand labelled with a sticker to give a home-made feeling.
AIGA Alan Kitching's Poster
Concept
An AIGA Los Angeles invitation to Alan Kitching's wood-type poster exhibition is created in Kitching's own style. Kitching is a British typographer who works with wood-type to create amazing posters with interesting textures in vivid colors. This design was created on computer, mimicking his style. The poster can be folded and mailed easily.
AIGA Typecraft Studio Tour Poster
Concept
UCLA Extension AIGA Group planned a studio tour at Typecraft Lithography. This poster advertised the event and reflect the printer's technical side. Inspired by printer's mark, the symbols are used as main graphic elements to attract viewer's attantion. The marks are aligned which means the printing is precise. The real printer's mark around the poster are included as a part of the design.
Housework Poster
Concept
Housework is often stereotyped as a woman's work, and is typically grievous and exhausting. In this poster the feminine side of housework is portrayed by the glowing pink background, while the distressing aspect is represented by Gothic lettering. The flowing lines complement the Gothic writing, resemble the messy unpleasant nature of housework, and tie the words together to create a calligraphy piece that is visually interesting.
Pointed Pen Calligraphy Poster
Concept
A new calligraphy class "Pointed Pen Calligraphy" started in Fall 2010, needed to be introduced to students at UCLA Extension. This poster advertised the class using the calligraphy technique that students would get to learn from the class itself. One of the most important key to a good pointed pen calligraphy is making the letters airy like cloud being blown by the wind. That became a concept of this poster that shows how a good pointed pen calligraphy should be.
Bangkok Project
Concept
The full ceremonial name of the city Bangkok has the longest name of any city in the world. On this poster 'Bangkok' is written in Thai in Gothic gold-colored lettering to give the feeling of an ancient and rich culture. The first letter 'K' (Krung Thep, the short Thai name for Bangkok) is featured in bible illumination style using Thai ornaments to fill the letter. The color scheme chosen comes from ancient Thai mural paintings. This artwork portrays the soul of Thai art with representation that is accessible to western cultures.
USC Grodins Symposium Poster
Concept
Grodins Graduate Research Symposium is an annual event where Biomedical Engineering students present their research findings. The Symposium needed a logo to represent itself to sponsors who would support the fund for the event. This logo won the contest and become an official logo for Grodins since the 13th Symposium. This logo design was inspired by circuit board which reflects engineering. Extended lines are a part of the identity that will wrap around different medium. It also convey the meaning of gathering and sharing, which is the core of this Symposium.
